Coaching in esports stinks. Thats what my eternally frustrated friend Nick always tells me, and he has a point.Esports is still a new competitive category, and while it has existed in some form since nearly the start of the video game era -- see the 1980 Space Invaders Tournament or the 1990 Nintendo World Championships -- it has been only in recent years that it exploded. Both audiences and jackpots are massive; there just hasnt been the same amount of time to develop the support infrastructure that traditional sports have over decades. One organization hopes to change that.Boston-based startup Gamer Sensei has jumped into this field, seeking to change the way players find coaches that meet their needs. It doesnt matter it its a professional esports organization looking to upgrade their coaching staff, or the gamer at home who wants to improve.Like a lot of businesses, Gamer Sensei started when someone had a simple need and found themselves unable to find a simple solution to meet that need - to find some coaching. It started when co-founder William Collis, a lifelong gamer, was playing Blizzard Entertainments extremely popular online card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Collis tale isnt that of a young card-game phenom blasting to the top of the ladder.I was just playing Hearthstone with a bunch of buddies and I was basically kicked out of the group because I was so bad at Hearthstone, Collis said. I was using all the resources available to me at the time, Twitch streams, deck guides, and nothing was working.Collis quest to become a better Hearthstone player led him to seek help from other players, with decidedly mixed results. One such experience, being coached by another Hearthstone player who appeared to have a little more expertise with the popular Face Hunter deck than Collis did, led to arguments and a mid-game hangup. From these types of frustrating experiences, an idea emerged. If finding personalized help is this difficult, perhaps helping players finding solutions is a business that needs to exist? Connecting with his other co-founders, Rohan Gopaldas, a classmate and friend from Harvard Business School, and Jiapeng Ji, a Boston-based software engineer with experience in athletic coaching infrastructure, Gamer Sensei was born. After a successful seed round in which $2.3 million in funding from area venture investment firms was raised, an idea became a business.Gamer Senseis core business model isnt all that different from Uber, but instead of matching people who need rides to drivers, they seek to match gamers to coaches. The service would only be as good as the help that they sign up, so they needed to figure out how to make sure the coaches they bring on-board are competent. And since this is 2016, analytics are involved. While the Gamer Sensei gang was understandably reluctant to leak all the secret sauce of their algorithms, we did discuss some of the factors that they use in finding coaching talent. In Hearthstone, for example, a players ladder finishes and Hearthstone Championship Tour points play a factor in ascertaining their experience playing at high levels. But like in a sport such as baseball, in which many of the best coaches were less-than-elite talent on the field, coaching is more than subject matter competence. Rohan Gopaldas described to me their companys organizational philosophy when it comes to choosing coaches, or sensei as they refer to them.Community manager Dan Yoo and I come from customer service backgrounds, so we really try to bring out that element because, at the end of the day, this is a service that were providing. So were really choosy in terms of how we pick our sensei. At the end of the day, our sensei also need to be great teachers. One such upcoming teacher is Cong Strifecro Shu, known as one of the top Hearthstone players in the scene today. Will Gamer Senseis methods be successful? At least one esports organization is betting that it will be. NRG eSports, a group that competes across a wide field of popular games, is a partner of Gamer Sensei in curriculum development and coaching. But theyve taken that relationship one step forward.NRG, in the process of expanding the number of Esports in which they compete -- they also recently added Nairoby Nairo Quezada to bring Super Smash Bros. into their stable -- is now seeking to field their own Hearthstone team. And rather than simply scour the free agent lists for whoever happens available, NRG has turned to Gamer Sensei for staffing, with the new players hired being exclusively from the Gamer Sensei ranks. That esports now has startups such as Gamer Sensei tells us, almost as much as the size of the prize pools, that the field is maturing and putting together the structures that will help esports thrive in the coming years and decades. Football in the United States started out as an experimental game staged between two college teams in the 19th century. Basketball began when a PhysEd professor threw a soccer ball into a peach basket. From humble beginnings to millions of fans, the maturation of esports as an industry is a great thing to be able to witness firsthand. Jim Otto Jersey . But by the time the game started, the Toronto Raptors forward felt even worse. And, for three quarters, it showed as Gay shot a woeful three-for-13 from the field. Jim Otto Womens Jersey . Barcelona also left injured defenders Carles Puyol, Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba out of its squad for the trip to Glasgow. That means that Marc Bartra will probably start again in the centre of the defence alongside Gerard Pique. http://www.footballraidersmall.com/Youth-Isaiah-Johnson-Elite-Jersey/ .C. -- Calgarys Kevin Koe did it the hard way again. Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. And spoken is defined as one calling the other to inquire, no more, no less. Serenas BestOn-Court FashionSerena Williams is the best tennis player in the history of the sport -- and the most fiercely stylish athlete of all time. Fashion is her passion; she studied design for two years and oversees two successful clothing collections with Nike and HSN. Off the court, Serena is a chameleon: sexy, demure or elegant. On the court, her body-conscious ensembles -- and her history-making wins -- have helped cement the tennis stars legendary status. Slay, Miss Williams. Pretty standard. But add a black-and-white leopard print and long glossy bright pink nails that complement her wrist band, and youve got full-throttle Tennis Fashionista. Flirty, playful and unapologetically modern, Serenas style game has just enough Compton to shake folks up.2Fallen Angel2014 Wimbledon doubles with sister, VenusSerena was forced to retire from the match after appearing disoriented and double faulting. Rumors swirled that she was either drunk, on drugs or was pregnant, all of which she denied. Pity that the controversy overshadowed one of her classiest on-court looks. Extra points awarded for her soft, pretty hairstyle and elegant cat-eye makeup.3Crimson Tide2008 US Open final against Jelena JankovicCare to see the most spontaneous expression of adult joy from the best athlete in the world? It happens at the end of this match when Serena -- resplendent in a fiery red dress, matching headband and nails -- tosses her racket in the air, screams like a kid and jumps ? and jumps ? and jumps. Epic and wonderful.4Puuuuurfectly Serena2002 US Open quarterfinal against Daniela HantuchovaAh, yes, the infamous black Catwoman outfit. Safe to say the 21-year-old Wimbledon champ raised a few eyebrows when she walked onto the Arthur Ashe court wearing this Lycra second-skin shorts (really short) suit. Serena later told reporters, If you dont have a decent shape, this isnt the best outfit to have. Buuuuurn!5Style ProdigySerena in 1992Five years before she placed in her first World Tennis Association semifinal in Chicago, 11-year-old Serena was perfecting her serve and practicing her powerful backhand on public courts in Compton, California.dddddddddddd This matching two-piece outfit and her sweet signature braids gave us a glimpse of her future chicness.6Bright and Lovely2015 Australian Open final against Maria SharapovaBoth Williams sisters love bright colors, and Serenas nearly backless dress in neon lime green and pink has more in common with a bathing suit than a staid country club frock. This was a loud, no-nonsense bit of business, and Serena dazzled as she dominated Sharapova to claim her 19 Grand Slam win.7Sassy and Classy2016 Wimbledon fourth round against Annika BeckWimbledons traditional whites have always looked gorgeous against Serenas sun-kissed brown skin, and this Nike dress played that up beautifully. It also captured the two sides of Ms. Williams on-court personality -- the tight, take-no-prisoners turtleneck top is paired with a classic swingy pleated skirt.8She Wears Short Shorts2003 Rome MastersThese bright Clockwork Orange micro-shorts were a peak into Serenas vivid and provocative fashion imagination. The look blended small Paris catwalk details (a wide, low-slung belt and tiny back pockets) with a colorful summer-in-Ibiza aesthetic.9Low-Key Drama2006 US OpenThe dress that brought something slightly unexpected to the storied hardcourts of Flushing Meadows, New York. The colors were muted: slate gray, muted bronze, dim gold and a quick pop of Serena red. But the swirling abstract patterns and the major diamond jewelry made this ensemble something that only a Williams sister would wear.10Queen of the Colosseum2004 US Open first round against Sandra KleinovaPerhaps it wasnt her prettiest look, but Serenas Gladiator-style blue denim Nike miniskirt, studded tank top and black sneaker go-go boots was certainly her boldest fashion creation. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old Serena didnt yell Are you not entertained? as she handily finished off her first-round opponent in two sets.A Collaboration with the UndefeatedPhoto Reference by Getty Images ' ' '
