The British Olympic Association has confirmed its final list of 366 athletes who will compete at the Rio Olympics next month. The number represents the third largest Great Britain squad to travel to an overseas Games, and the biggest since Barcelona in 1992.The team is boosted by the last-minute inclusion of canoe sprint pair Lani Belcher and Angela Hannah, who were handed a place after the International Canoeing Federation upheld a doping ban on the Romania and Belarus teams.Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England said: After four years of hard work our team for Rio 2016 is now complete. We have a strong squad of athletes ready to do their country proud and its great to welcome our largest British Olympic team for almost a quarter of a century.I also genuinely believe this is our most talented ever team and to qualify in 23 out of the 28 sports is a fantastic achievement. For the athletes the Olympic Games represent a lifetime of dedication in the pursuit of excellence and I wish them all the best over the comings weeks.Belcher and Hannah finished one place outside automatic qualification for Rio at last years World Championships in Milan, where they were narrowly beaten by the Romanians.Belcher, who will make her Olympic debut in Rio, said: The last 11 months have definitely been a rollercoaster of emotions for us.Olympic year is never easy or smooth sailing, but to go through the ups and downs we have been through makes this news extra special. After missing out on London 2012 Olympics by such a small margin, being selected for the Rio Olympics is a dream come true. I cannot wait to get out there and race the best in the world and enjoy the experience. In another late change, Steve Cummings has been called up to the Great Britain cycling team in place of Peter Kennaugh, who voluntarily withdrew due to a loss of form.Cummings, who will compete in the road race, is rewarded for his his stunning stage win in the Tour de France earlier this month. The 35-year-old had angrily protested when he was denied a place in the initial line-up in June, accusing British Cycling endurance coach Rod Ellingworth of a conflict of interests due to also holding a role at Team Sky.Cummings said: Ive shown over the 2016 season to date that I am in great shape and I look forward to going to Rio to represent my country and hopefully we as a team come back with a medal from the road race.Kennaugh, who won team pursuit gold in London four years ago, broke his collarbone in a crash in stage three of the Tour of California in May and had been struggling to return to top form.He said: London 2012 was one of the highlights of my career so I am gutted to be missing out on Rio but, knowing that I am not able to give my best, I felt it was my duty to withdraw. In the short term, this isnt hard to figure out: The World Series advanced to a seventh game, played between the two teams with the longest championship droughts in existence. Theres no question how the playoffs will be remembered, for a little while. Some kind of storybook ending was inevitable. That much was clear before the World Series even began. And fans will remember the playoffs in their own way.Yet the baseball industry could also be said to have a memory, one that has a tendency to respond to recent trends. Baseball itself is likely to remember these playoffs for what happened with the relievers -- and the trends we saw are unlikely to reverse in October tournaments down the road.Heres an easy place to sttart off.ddddddddddddIve selected as my data window the wild-card era, stretching back to 1995. In the playoff years since then, how much have starters and relievers been used? This plot has what you need to know:The lines bounce around, and none of the differences are?huge. But, overall, starters have averaged 63 percent of the innings. This year, they wound up at 57 percent. They were that low before only once, in 2004, a year that playoff starters had an ERA over 5.00. This years playoff starters had an ERA under 4.00. So they pitched less, even though they were reasonably effective. ' ' '
